Memoriam
On this page, we want to honour all the animals that accompanied us on this journey.
I would wander the stars for millennia, clothe myself in all forms, in all languages of life, to meet you once again. But I think that which is alike finds itself again soon
– Friedrich Hölderlin

Golden Retriever Sunny
Lovingly called "Sunny"
12.06.2000 – 20.12.2012
Sunny was the family dog we children grew up with. She was a typical Golden Retriever, a loving and protective lady who loved everyone.
She once became a mother with the golden retriever male from our neighbourhood – we kept one of the puppies and named her Kessy. The two were inseparable and were great companions.
Golden Retriever Kessy
Lovingly called "Kessy"
15.06.2005 – 19.09.2014
Kessy was a daughter of our Sunny and was very attached to her mum. When we had to put Sunny down due to her old age, Kessy was a bit disoriented and confused.
Unfortunately, she followed her mother just two years later, as we had to put her down after she was diagnosed with a ruptured spleen and cirrhosis of the liver. From one day to the next, she became very ill and we decided to let her go with dignity.

O’Malley von der alten Birke
Lovingly called "O'Malley"
30.08.2022 – 08.09.2022
Sadly, O'Malley only got to spend one week in this world. He took his last breaths in Julie's warm hands, surrounded by his mum Cleo and his loving pack. We still mourn his death to this day, and he will always be a part of our Birkenshelties family!
Katze Cuddles
Lovingly called "Cuddles"
zirka 2010 – 15.03.2024
We adopted Cuddles in January 2012 because her previous owners had apparently forgotten her when they moved house. She quickly became attached to Birgit and has been with her ever since. She also became very attached to the dogs – especially Taxi – and was there to provide emotional support during many births and litters.
She was a very special soul who ultimately passed away peacefully and quietly, simply falling asleep without waking up again.
We miss her very much and hope to be able to take in a cat similar to her in the future!

Biscuit von der alten Birke
Lovingly called "Rudi"
13.07.2018 – 03.08.2024
Rudi was taken from us too soon. We mourn deeply with our friend Doris over this enormous loss. Rudi was loved by everyone who knew him. He was regularly taken to the retirement home and brought great joy to many people. He and Doris will forever remain part of our Birkenshelties family!
Ela zur Lewitzperle
Lovingly called "Ela"
21.07.2021 – 18.02.2025
Ela was our first collie, with whom we actually wanted to start our collie breeding programme. Unfortunately, fate had other plans, as she failed to conceive twice and so she was allowed to remain just a dog. Due to a tragic series of events, she was lost by her new owner and was hit by a train. We sincerely hope that she did not suffer for long and was quickly put out of her misery.
